GUIDE
Resolving Employment Disputes
Settlement Agreements
A settlement agreement is a legally binding contract in which you agree not to pursue certain employment claims, usually in return for a financial payment. Your employer may offer one, or you can raise it yourself if you believe you have a claim. To be valid, you must take independent legal advice, and employers often contribute towards the cost. Our settlement agreement solicitors will review the terms, explain your rights and negotiate better terms on your behalf.
ACAS Early Conciliation
Before bringing a claim to an employment tribunal, you’ll usually need to go through Acas Early Conciliation. This is a free, impartial service aimed at helping employees and employers reach an agreement without going to court. An ACAS conciliator will speak to both sides, exploring whether a resolution can be found. If a settlement is reached, the matter can be resolved quickly and discreetly. If not, you’ll receive a certificate allowing you to proceed to tribunal. Our employment solicitors can support you throughout the early conciliation process helping you prepare, understand your options, and protect your interests.
